"Nirok Nanggok" (Fish catching Using a Kind of Lance and Rattan Basket)
It is a mass fish catching that still be carried out by the people of Belantu, at Kembiri village on the nothern part of Belitung. This activity held once in while when the drought is too long, generally happened between August to September.
In the dry season most of the rivers water become decrease and form stagnating water ponds where so much fish in it. This the very time for the people of Kembiri catch fish by using certain tools. The tools which used are "tirok" (a kind of lance with hooked and sharp point at one end) and "tanggok" (a kind of oval shape basket on one side, made of rattan). This kind of activity is a sacred ceremony. Taht's why in processing must be done through several procedures with the certain condition which may not be broken . All the process of the ceremony led by dukun air (a person who possesses a magic power and knowledge of the river water) and presented by the respective old villagers and all the people from the village. the function and main purpose of this procedure is to unite firmly and reinforce people to the traditional custom of their own.besides, to manage the fish catching in the rivers that has been decided, for keeping the continuity of fish which live in the rivers.
